Stylish Diaper Bags: Marc Jacobs Diaper Bags and More
I have something important to tell you about “traditional” diaper bags. You know, the ones they sell at baby stores for $200-300 that come in ridiculous, infantile patterns? You don’t really need them.
I fell into the same trap as many news mom when I was pregnant with my first baby. I registered for a massive diaper bag that looked more like nursery decor than a stylish accessory. The saleswoman really pushed the “unique” diaper bag features. It was a diaper bag with foam padding; it was a diaper bag with removable vinyl; it was a diaper bag with zipper closure.
The problem was that it was so big and bulky, it didn’t fit under my stroller let alone over my shoulder. Sadly, my baby-store diaper bag has been sitting in my closet for the past two years, despite the fact that I have a new, eight-month-old baby.
I wish I knew then what I know now, which is you DON’T need to buy a baby-store diaper bag. You are better off buying a designer handbag that you love now and will be able to use after you grow out of the baby phase.
Did you ever hear about that study on bulk buying? The one that says those who buy in bulk are more likely to excessively consume products than those who buy regular sizes? The same applies to diaper bags. The bigger your diaper bag, the more unnecessary stuff you will carry around with you.
You really don’t need to bring a lot with you when you’re taking your baby out. There are a few diaper bag essentials that easily fit into a medium-sized purse with lots of pockets and compartments.

Whether you are a fan of the Michael Kors diaper bag, the Kate Spade diaper bag, or Marc Jacobs diaper bags, I have three timeless styles of diaper bags that will carry you through the baby years and beyond.
It’s a great time to be a new mom now because backpacks are making a comeback. They are my top choice in modern diaper bag design. It’s all about the hands-free, baby.
Wearing a signature diaper bag backpack allows me to carry all my baby items behind me, so I can hold baby with one arm and carry groceries with the other.
Not sure if this is a coincidence, but since wearing my Michael Kors diaper bag, I have been asked if I was attending my high school graduation (yes, 14 years ago) and I’ve been carded at the liquor store twice. I credit all this perceived youth to the power of the backpack.
Check out my top picks below, like the my Michael Kors diaper bag (pictured above) or the Marc Jacobs diaper bags.
The satchel diaper bag is the perfect cross-body option. The satchel is designed to sit on the hip providing easy access to essential items, like your cell phone and baby wipes. You can usually tuck in or remove the cross-body strap to convert into a handbag.
The satchel diaper bag is a great choice for moms looking for a diaper bag that can transition into a work purse.
Diaper bag totes are a good option for moms having trouble letting go of traditional diaper-bag notions. Tote diaper bags are big enough to fit all your baby items and most come with a cross-body strap, in case you need to switch to hands-free mode.
The tote bag is versatile and practical. Forgot your reusable shopping bag at home? No problem. I’ve been known to stick a baguette or two in my tote diaper bag while grocery shopping with my baby.
Although I am a huge advocate of buying a stylish designer diaper bag, I would recommend getting a thin, portable changing pad to slip into your new purse. I use this one from JJ Cole.
